Hear from Atticus about his role as a data analyst.
Duration: 01:28

My name's Atticus Paulson. I'm a data analyst at eHealth Queensland.

Previously, I was a registered nurse with Queensland Health and various HHSs (Hospital and Health Services).

[Staff profile]

I help HHSs with their informational needs. We push information and pull information from other services and put it all together so that we can help HHSs deliver clinical services.

So what inspired me to move from nursing into a technical role at eHealth? I saw that clinicians weren't able to effectively use the IT that we were providing them. And so I wanted to make the IT better so that they could actually work with the patients ina more effective way.

From my specific talents and my experiences, I feel that I contribute to the health care system a lot more effectively in this setting.

I have a really young family and continuously thinking that if one of my family had to go to hospital, I would want them to be in a world class service. And so I kind of feel like I'm contributing to that. So eHealth does enable me to have a focus on work, but at the same time a focus on my family.

The flexibility is really good for medical appointments and other things I might need to attend. So I can work from home when I need to and I can also have off time with flexible working arrangements if I need it as well.

Hear from Riyaz about his role as a technology officer in a regional team.
Duration: 3:22

Hi, my name is Riyaz Shaik. I work as a technology officer at eHealth Toowoomba. We have a small team of 20 people which supports around 600 kilometres. Every day feels new; you don't know what you're walking into. One day I might come in to resolve a simple incident, and the next day I could be working on a project. It's never the same — there's a lot of variety. And when you have such a small team in a regional place like this, we have to play multiple roles.

In this process of trying new things, you find new things every day. You discover, “Oh, I've learnt something new today.” That feeling, I don't think that happens everywhere. I come to work every day because I love what I do, and I enjoy coming to work because of my team. It feels like a family culture. I haven't seen that in other offices I’ve worked in. When I've gone to other places, I haven’t seen the same rapport among colleagues.

Every time I have an off day, or I want to get distracted from something happening in my personal life, I try to come to work instead of staying home. The reason is that they’ll make you forget about those things. You get diverted so easily because you have such a friendly team working with you.

We have great technology — really great technology — and you get to work on the most advanced systems here. There are many times when I fix an issue after working on it for a few hours, and the reactions of the people, how thankful they are because we resolved their issue, just makes my day.

I come from a family with a doctor. My sister is a doctor, and I’m very proud of that. Because she's a specialist, she might get a call in the middle of the night and then she goes to work, and the amount of stress she goes through — I understand that. I see how people who help people, like doctors, nurses and others, deal with stress every day. You may not be on the front end, but on the back end, when you resolve things to make their work go smoothly, it gives you a lot of happiness.

I was working as an IT professional for a couple of years in India. I had two options in my mind — going to the US or going to Australia. For some reason, I chose to come to Queensland. I'm from a city where things are similar to Toowoomba, where you have everything, and at the same time it’s not a metropolitan area. It's such a small community. You see people at the hospital and then you go to the gym, and you find the same people there waving at you. I don't think that happens in a city culture. In a big place, you're spending all your time in traffic or keeping to yourself, whereas here you have the space to explore yourself.

After living in quite a few other places, I’ve never found what I have here, so I always wanted to come back. I'm lucky to have found this job. I feel very fortunate that I have it now.

Hear from Shay about her role as a program director.
Duration: 1:44

Hi everyone, I'm Shay. I'm a program director at eHealth Queensland.

My role is to guide and coordinate digital design and delivery across health infrastructure projects.

And we work on projects that are looking at expanded health facilities and new builds, so all the infrastructure projects.

So we get involved right from early concept stage, working with clinicians and designers to understand how the facility will
operate and what digital systems will support that.

So as the design develops, we make sure things like Wi-Fi, networks, and clinical systems are planned properly and built into projects.

And during delivery, we work with other eHealth teams, vendors, and our construction partners to make sure everything is installed, tested, and ready for staff and patients from day one.

An average day for me usually involves a mix of governance meetings, catching up with my team, and meeting with project stakeholders.

A lot of it is about keeping everyone aligned, making decisions, and making sure the digital parts of the project are moving in the right direction.

I come to work every day because I love the team I work with and the difference we make together. They're really a group of dedicated people that just want to deliver the best possible outcome in the health facilities that we're building. I chose digital health because the work has a real impact, and it feels great to be part of something that makes a difference. When you're working from a project right from the concept stage, looking at the designs, to actually being able to see that facility built and all the work that's gone into it, it's really rewarding.
