Your role as an IT project officer
As an IT project officer, you’ll support your manager with projects that improve our digital systems and services.
This includes:
- helping to coordinate project and planning processes
- documenting plans, progress and milestones
- following project management methods and processes to meet quality standards.
It’s a chance to build your confidence and grow your skills in project management.

How a project officer is different from a project manager
IT project officers help with project administration and technical support. An IT project manager leads the project and is responsible for its success.
What your day might look like
You’ll start your day by checking in with your manager and team, and replying to emails or questions about the project.
You’ll also help with:
- planning and coordinating smaller projects, including what needs doing and when
- producing and updating project plans, budgets, timelines and risk registers using project management processes and software
- keeping people organised and making sure the project goes to plan
- handling problems or changes
- supporting staff, vendors and project stakeholders.
Examples of the kinds of projects you’ll work on include:
- upgrading IT systems and patient records
- improving cyber security
- installing new networks and data centres
- introducing new technologies and ways of working, such as telehealth and virtual care.
A big part of your job is organising everyone and helping to keep the project on track. You’ll get experience in a range of areas and work with people right across Queensland.

Qualifications
You don't need any qualifications, but experience or a certification in PRINCE2 or Agile project management can give you the skills needed for the role.
Pay and benefits
Your pay rate and benefits will depend on your role and your pay point. In your first year you’ll start at administrative officer grade 5, pay point 1.
We also offer:
- regular wage increases
- a superannuation rate of 12.75%
- a supportive workplace with flexible working arrangements
- several types of leave
- salary packaging
- help with training costs.
If you're moving to start a new job with us, you may be able to get help with moving and travel costs.
