Your role as a solution architect

As a solution architect you’ll work on innovative IT solutions that solve business problems and help us provide safe, quality health care across Queensland.

This includes:

  • talking to stakeholders to find out what they need, and what solutions are possible
  • analysing, planning and justifying the design of IT systems
  • managing risks, changes and design support during IT projects.

What your day might look like

You’ll start the day checking in with your team and replying to any emails from staff and external stakeholders.

You’ll be working closely with them to understand their goals and requirements, and design solutions that meet our needs for:

  • business
  • technology
  • information
  • software and applications
  • integration – how systems work together
  • cyber security.

You’ll also spend time talking to vendors to find out if their technology will:

  • solve our business problems
  • meet security and technology standards
  • suit our budget and time constraints
  • comply with our rules and policies.

You’ll explain complex problems and ideas, offer expert advice and help everyone agree on the plan. You'll help us spot and reduce risks, and compare solutions and designs. A big part of your job is documenting the solution and our reasons for key decisions.

Many solution architects support existing systems and applications. If you’re part of an IT project you may also help with writing project plans, briefs and reports that will help us build new solutions. You’ll follow project management methodologies to make sure your work achieves the project team’s goals.

You’ll work on large complex systems that are vital for health care, and get experience in a range of industry technologies, frameworks, standards and practices.
