QARTS pronounced ‘quartz’ oversees the 4 Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) accredited rotations in Queensland.

QARTS administers the selection and placement of anaesthesia training registrars in our hospitals. It works in conjunction with us and the Directors of Anaesthesia (DoA) Group from the hospitals.

The QARTS coordination committee includes:

  • the QARTS Rotational Coordinator
  • Queensland ANZCA Rotational Supervisors (ROTs)
  • QARTS Interview Coordinators
  • an ANZCA Queensland Regional Committee Representative
  • a DoA Group Representative
  • the ANZCA Queensland Education Officer.
  • a Queensland Health representative.

The committee only deals with accredited training positions during introductory, basic and advanced training including limited periods of extended training. QARTS does not deal with employment for provisional fellows or specialist international medical graduates.

Eligibility

To apply you must:

  • be a citizen of Australia or New Zealand or a permanent resident of Australia
  • be registered to practice with the Medical Board of Australia with general registration without restrictions or undertakings which would prevent you performing the duties of an anaesthetic registrar
  • hold registration with or be able to apply to ANZCA
  • be free of chemical dependence and other health related conditions that will prevent you from performing the duties of an Anaesthetic registrar.

Applying

You can apply for a position with QARTS when you apply for the RMO campaign. Due to time constraints of the selection process, we cannot accept late applications. Continuing trainees must apply via the RMO and Registrar Campaign for every year of training.

Positions with QARTS are for either six or 12 months and are in line with the Queensland Health ‘Registrars and PHOs term dates’ for the two-term yearly plan for the relevant hospital employment year.  Positions outside these dates are only offered to fill vacancies.

QARTS cannot guarantee you will complete the clinical volume of practice within the minimum 4 years.

You will also be asked to provide information about why you are not currently on QARTS and why you should be considered for re-entry to QARTS.

How to apply

If you’re a Specialist International Medical Graduate and hold a 'Report 1,' don’t apply to QARTS. Instead, contact the hospital department Directors or SOTs directly.

Before you apply, make sure you read the QARTS pathway application information [PDF 418.56 KB]. It outlines information about selection criteria, other requirements and selection and appointments.

Once you’ve done this, you can apply for QARTS through the RMO campaign by selecting ‘Yes’ to the QARTS pathway question and completing the questions.

When you apply, you’ll need to preference rotations that you’d like to do. Only preference rotations you’re willing to undertake. The QARTS preference guide [PDF 317.66 KB] can help you do this. You can also find out how to apply for the RMO campaign .
