About the workshop
The rural readiness workshop (RRW) will equip you with clinical, professional and interpersonal skills for your rural placement as a prevocational trainee. RRW, along with weekly online education sessions through our statewide rural education prevocational program (StREPP), ensures your learning starts before and continues throughout your rural rotation.
During this one-day face to face workshop, you will:
- participate in practical learning with problem-based scenarios, case discussion and simulation in primary and secondary care
- be taught by experienced Rural Generalists, rural GPs and QRGP educators
- focus on skills and knowledge in clinical reasoning, decision making, teamwork and communication for rural contexts.
The workshop is mapped to the Australian Medical Council’s National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training standards, and to the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal College of Australian General Practitioners (RACGP) frameworks.
Who can attend
You can attend RRW at no cost if you’re a prevocational doctor working for Queensland Health on a:
- Australian Primary Care Prevocational Program - Rural (APCPP – Rural) rotation
- Queensland Country jDocs rotation
- rural placement in Queensland in a primary or secondary care role.
Other prevocational doctors doing these rotations but not working for Queensland Health can also attend. Your facility may need to pay a fee and answer some additional questions to check the workshop is suitable for you.
When and where
Workshops are held across Queensland including Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns, Mackay and Hervey Bay. Your employing hospital will work with you to select the best workshop for you to attend.

How to register
The hospital where you work must nominate you for this workshop and we will send you a registration form.
If you are not eligible for free attendance, you'll need to pay any fees before we confirm your place.
