Advanced skills training campaign
Each year, we run a campaign to recruit medical officers for advanced skills training in:
- obstetrics
- mental health
- palliative care
- adult internal medicine
- paediatrics
- anaesthetics.
You can apply for advanced skills training in other disciplines through the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) campaign or your college.
When to apply
The campaign opens in April, with roles starting the next year.
Read more about rural advanced skills training campaign dates.
Who can apply
To apply for advanced skills training you need to:
- be in at least your second year after graduation (PGY2)
- hold general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- show commitment to working in a rural community in your chosen skill area.
Some disciplines may have other pre-requisites that you need to meet before you can commence training and this might affect when you can apply. You should read the college curriculum documents for your discipline before you apply.
Advanced skills training is open to trainees and fellows. You don't need to be involved with the Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway to apply.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants can apply to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander advanced skills training initiative.
Attainment of FACRRM or FRACGP-RG requires completion of one advanced skill. Additional advanced skills are optional and not required for fellowship. If you wish to apply for a second advanced skill pre-fellowship, you must receive approval from your college and provide written confirmation as part of your application.
RACGP registrars require endorsement from the Rural Censor which may take up to 6 weeks. Contact QLD.RuralTraining@racgp.org.au for more information.
ACRRM registrars require endorsement from the Regional Director of Training. Contact training.qld@acrrm.org.au for more information.
