Queensland Health recognises that medical training is demanding and is committed to supporting the physical and mental health and wellbeing of medical practitioners and trainees.
Medical Workforce Wellbeing Hub
As part of Queensland Health’s commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of medical practitioners and trainees, the Medical Workforce Wellbeing Hub has been launched. The Hub is a centralised resource for doctors, trainees, and staff. Guided by the Queensland Health Workforce Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework - which focuses on prevention, intervention, and support - this platform provides evidence-based tools, confidential support services, and strategies for burnout prevention and work-life balance.
Explore the resources and protect your wellbeing by visiting the Medical Workforce Wellbeing Hub (Internal network access required).
Mind(re)set
Since 2017, the Department of Health has ensured the opportunity for prevocational junior doctors to participate in specific wellbeing training. Mind(re)set is an interactive, self-paced wellbeing program, designed in partnership with Mater Education Limited, specifically for junior doctors in postgraduate years one to five (PGY1–5). This voluntary training empowers you to proactively protect your mental health through practical activities, relatable clinical scenarios, and insights shared by Queensland Health peers and senior clinicians.
Modules of the Mind(re)set program cover:
- Mental health wellbeing and burnout mitigation
- Practicing self-care and why it matters
- Managing workload stress
- De-escalating conflict (Part 1): Understanding and regulating emotional triggers
- De-escalating conflict (Part 2): Communicating to de-escalate conflict
- Career planning
- Skills for new supervisors
Queensland Health Medical Workforce Wellbeing Reference Group
The Department also convenes the Queensland Health Medical Workforce Wellbeing Reference Group. Chaired by the Chief Medical Officer, this group brings together internal leaders and external organisations to drive systemic wellbeing solutions. The group focuses on minimising workplace risks, encouraging early help-seeking behaviours, and fostering a positive culture that prioritises the health of all medical practitioners and students.
