Your role as a wardsperson

As a wardsperson, you’ll help health professionals and support patient care in our hospitals by:

  • cleaning rooms and getting them ready for patients
  • moving patients around the hospital
  • managing beds, trolleys, wheelchairs and medical devices.

We have full time, part time and casual roles, and you may work shifts as part of a team.

What your day might look like

You’ll start the day by checking in with your team, and finding out which jobs need doing in the hospital.

You’ll spend a big part of your day making sure patients get to the right places safely. You’ll check ID bands and charts, and help move them between wards, operating theatres, and imaging rooms where they might have scans or x-rays. You’ll also make sure they stay attached to any medical devices like IV drips and heart monitors.

During the day you’ll bring clean beds and devices to our wards and take any used ones away. You'll also help with any manual tasks, such as turning patients in bed, clearing hallways or moving furniture.
