Your role as a security officer

As a security officer, you’ll:

  • keep people, buildings, grounds and carparks safe and secure
  • respond to alarms, incidents and emergencies
  • control access and making sure people do the right thing
  • coordinate security training of staff.

We have full time, part time and casual roles, and you may work shifts as part of a team.

What your day might look like

You’ll start the day by checking in with your team, and gathering anything you need for your shift, such as your radio, keys and access cards.

If you work at our front desks, you'll unlock doors, check staff ID cards, and let people into our buildings.

You’ll spend time patrolling and monitoring our facilities. You might walk around buildings, grounds and car parks, or watch what’s happening on CCTV cameras and alarm systems.

You’ll keep people safe by responding to any problems or incidents such as unauthorised entry, or unsafe behaviour.

A big part of your job will be reporting what happens on site. You’ll keep logs about your patrols, alarms, incidents and what your team did.
