About the event

Roma forum badge

We’re returning to the spiritual home of rural generalism to celebrate 20 years of rural generalist practise in Queensland.

Join us in Roma to reflect on how far we’ve come since the Roma Agreement and discuss what the future of rural generalism looks like.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to participate and commit to collective action to strengthen rural generalist care where it is most needed. Your contributions will help shape strategic action to ensure our rural and remote communities can access high quality care close to home. If you have an interest in rural generalism, this is an event you can’t miss!

Watch the video to hear from Dr Prue Wallin on what to expect and why you should get involved.

Queensland rural generalist 20 year forum: Framing the future
A landmark meeting in Roma

Dr Prue Wallin: Hi everyone, my name is Prue Wallin. I'm the Medical Director of the Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway and I'm here in Roma with the team doing some scouting for our 20 year forum which is coming up in October.

For those of you that don't know, it's 20 years since the Roma Agreement which sort of started the Rural Generalist Pathway and the growth of rural generalist medicine in Queensland.

With rural generalism on the cusp of recognition nationally, we're looking to bring the best and brightest minds together in October in Roma to have some big sky thinking around where we've come from, where we're at at the moment and what rural generalism in Queensland looks like for the next 5 to 10 years.

We'd really love to see as many of you here as we can. If you'd like to register, you can do so via our website.

What to expect

Dr Prue Wallin: The program for the forum: basically day one is a little bit of celebration and looking back over the last 20 years and where the Rural Generalist Pathway started and where we're at now. Then looking a little bit at the current state of play of rural generalism in Queensland.

Day two of the program, we're really looking at what rural generalist medicine looks like for the next 5 to 10 years in Queensland. As you all know, the Roma Agreement was a group of really passionate rural practitioners who decided they wanted to see better health care and better training for rural communities and the rural doctors that serve them. And we're hoping that we can get all the best and brightest minds in a room for day two to sort of come up with a plan.

Have your say

Dr Prue Wallin: So we want to hear from the current generation of rural generalists, the current practitioners who are serving our rural communities. We want to hear from those in leadership and those in positions as stakeholders that are contributing to training and development within the rural generalist space, as well as hear from the communities about what they want and what services they need.

So we're looking forward to seeing you all in Roma in October. We really hope you can join us for some big sky thinking and a little bit of celebrating as well.
