About workplace based assessment
Workplace based assessment (WBA) programs help international medical graduates get their general registration with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA). You may be able to do one instead of the Australian Medical Council (AMC) clinical examination .
As part of the program you’ll work in one of our hospitals. We’ll assess your work and make sure your practice meets Australian standards..
You’ll get regular feedback and mentoring while you develop your skills in a real clinical setting. We’ll support your professional growth as you become a valued part of our healthcare system.
WBA programs are fully accredited by the Australian Medical Council.
Who can do the program
You can do the WBA program if you’re an international medical graduate, and:
- you’ve passed the AMC Part 1 Examination – this is also known as the Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Examination
- you have your limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- you contact the relevant HHS WBA program to confirm their specific eligibility criteria, application process, costs, and program requirements.
How we assess you
We’ll assess your performance in clinical settings using:
- mini clinical evaluation exercises (Mini-CEX)
- direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS)
- case based discussion
- feedback from multiple sources
- in-training assessments.
Read more about WBA assessment methods on the AMC website.
