Your role as a laundry assistant
As a laundry assistant, you’ll clean linen in a commercial laundry. Your work helps keep hospitals and aged care facilities clean and ready for patient care.
This includes:
- washing, drying, ironing and folding linen and uniforms
- sorting clean and used items
- loading and unloading laundry machines
- delivering linen to work areas.
We have full time, part time and casual roles, and some include shift work.
What your day might look like
You’ll start your shift by sorting used linen and loading machines.
During the day, you’ll:
- move linen through washing, drying and folding areas
- check for stains and remove them
- make minor repairs
- label, stack and store clean items.
You'll work in hospitals and aged care facilities with support staff to make sure clean linen is ready on time.

Qualifications
You can usually work as a laundry assistant without any formal qualifications.
Some roles may ask for or support you to do a Certificate II in Laundry Operations.

Your pay rate and benefits will depend on your role, experience and where you work.
